The 1957 Baseball Handbook was
compiled, edited, and published by
International News Service, a
U.S.-based news agency founded by
newspaper publisher William Randolph
Hearst in 1909. The company later
merged with United Press International
in 1958, who
then published the handbook until 1969,
when Wide World Inc. took over the
publishing.

The handbook was made available to use as an advertising
premium. The space at the bottom was
reserved for a company to add a four
line "Compliments of" advertisement. Newspapers, banks, oil companies,
were common clients. The Junior Sales
Club Of America, Boys' Life Magazine
Mickey Mantle advertisement used the
1957 Baseball Hand Book as a free
premium when you enrolled as a member.
