From 1988 until his death in 2010,
"Yankee's Legend" Freddy Schuman was the unofficial
Booster of the New York Yankees. Known
as Freddy Sez to Yankee fans, Schuman
would roam around the stadium with a
spoon in one hand and a metal frying
pan with a four leaf clover in the
middle reading: “Brings ‘em luck.” The
pan attached to a wooden stick would
have a sign on the other end. The
"booster sign" made with brilliant
colored hand painted letters would read
"Freddy Sez" at the top. The rest of
the sign would have a message to Yankee
Fans such as; "Scream-Whistle Keep Up
The Noise! It Helps The Yanks!," -
"Yankee Fans Lets Go Wild!" or "Yankee
Stadium Gave Birth To Champions!"
The sounds of the spoon clanging against the pan could be heard at every
Yankees home games. The sound was heard
on radio and TV broadcasts as Freddy
traveled from deck to deck, section by
section, allowing fans to hit the pan
with the spoon.
The Freddy
"Sez" Newsletter was first published in 1996, as this black &
