NOTES:

   With the great success of Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer's 1908 song "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," a number of copycat baseball songs would soon follow. Just day's after "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," George M. Cohan’s copycat song “Take Your Girl to the Ball Game” was released. The following year in 1909, Tin Pan Alley composer Al W. Brown and C.P. McDonald, took a swing at producing a similar hit with "I Want to Go to the Ball Game". In 1911, William Farmer, and Jos. McCarthy composed “I’ve Been Making a Grandstand Play for You.” All songs having the theme of taking your girl to the ball game.

  “I’ve Been Making a Grandstand Play for You” Lyrics
Lyrics by William Farmer, Composer Jos. McCarthy

  Way down front, hand in hand
In the baseball grandstand,
Is my girl and myself evry day;
 She's a regular fan,
 Like a regular man,
 Know just what to do, What to say.

Why she Yells "slide you rummy,
and throw it you dummy,"
She raves at baseball night and day,
but when some - one plays grand-stand,
she don't under-stand
and I just put her wise in this way:

I've been mak-ing a grand - stand play for you,
I was put out at first right a - way,
for you, I've run sec-ond and I've run third
but I'd slide for home, dear, without a word,
For I've been making a grand - stand play for you. You.

When you threw your first glance,
 you made me take a chance,
and I thought that I had made a hit;
but when I saw your face
I got off of my base,
and then you just said "tag your it"

Oh, if you on-ly yield
and just play on my field,
I'd win the game, dear, for you,
but I'd sign you for life dear,
I'd make you my wife, dear,
I'd give you the di-a-mond too:

I've been mak-ing a grand - stand play for you,
I was put out at first right a - way,
for you, I've run sec-ond and I've run third
but I'd slide for home, dear, without a word,
For I've been making a grand - stand play for you. You.
