A song written in 1908 by Jack
Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer, "Take
Me out to the Ball Game" became the
official anthem of baseball. It is the
third-most frequently heard song in
America, behind the national anthem and
Happy Birthday. Norworth who had never
been to a ball game, wrote the lyrics
when he passed the Polo Grounds on an
elevated train and saw a sign that read
“Baseball Today.”
Marking the 100th anniversary of the
song, Hal Leonard Corp., published
"Take Me Out To The Ball Game" sheet
music in 2008. Available separately:
SATB, SAB, 2-Part, ShowTrax CD.
Arranged by John Leavitt, the songs
lyrics are of the original 1908
version, about Katie Casey. Jack
Norworth later wrote different verses
for the song in 1927, with "Nelly
Kelly" replacing "Katie Casey."
The cover of the 13 page sheet, depicts Katie Casey, decked out in early
twentieth century garb, discussing
plans to go to the ball game with "her
young beau." Pages 2 through 8, "Take
me Out To The Ball Game For Two Part,
Piano arrangement, with String Bass,
and Percussion (Woodblock, Triangle,
Snare Drum, Whoopie Whistle) Parts
found on pages 10 through 13.
