in 1954, "The Mutual Baseball Almanac"
was edited by Roger Kahn; baseball
writer for the New York Herald Tribune,
and Al Helfer, Sports announcer for
Mutual Broadcasting's "Game Of The
Day." The Mutual Broadcasting System was
an American commercial radio network in
operation from 1934 to 1999. From the
1940s through the 1950s, Mutual
provided national radio coverage of
Major League Baseball games. During
this period, television sports
broadcasting was in its infancy, and
radio was still the main form of
broadcasting baseball. In 1950, Mutual
acquired the television broadcast
rights to the World Series and All-Star
Game for the next six years.
The Mutual Baseball Almanac" contains;
statistics, records, a series of essays
by the games biggest stars, diagrams of
seating arrangements, and field
dimensions of all 16 major league
ballparks. The book also provides 1954
team rosters, 1954 major league
schedules, complete official 1953 major
league records and official all-time
major league records.

The following pages feature "A Concise History of Baseball" and essays on
such topics as; how clubs operate, how
to score a game, how to read a box
score, and how to figure averages. The
last hundred pages are entitled "Who's
Who in Baseball" and includes
statistics on the players of the time
period.
The cover, both front and back, has 12 facsimile autographs of the authors
that provided essays for Tips On
Watching Baseball. The authors are also
pictured in the book, among with the
1953 National League pennant winning
Brooklyn Dodgers and the World Champion
New York Yankees.
