Narrated by Curt Gowdy, "Babe Ruth The
Life Of A Legend" tells the story of
Baseball's greatest hero, through
Play-By-Play action, interviews and
stories. Released in 1973 by the
Fleetwood Recording Company, The 33-1/3
RPM album was also sold in in 1974 as a set along
with
"Hank Aaron The Life Of A Legend"
As advertised; "The only official album
featuring all the exciting action of
baseballs two immortals they smash
every record in the book," was made
available at the cost of $4.98. The albums
were also offered in an 8 track
cartage, or cassette tapes for $6.98 a
set.
The front of the album cover pictures Babe Ruth hitting his final home run
as a Yankee on September 29, 1934 at
Griffith Stadium. The back feature a
short artistic career bio of "The Babe"
the journey from 1902 St. Mary's, 1915
as a Red Sox pitcher, to 1928, when
Ruth hit his record 60th home run. The
back cover is centered by a portrait
"Babe Ruth second to none"
Established in 1958, Fleetwood began recording Sports Albums in 1967. The
first "Havlicek Stole The Ball"
featuring highlights of the Boston
Celtic Championship Play-offs from 1956
to 1966. Later that year Fleetwood
Records issued "Impossible Dream," a
recording that was originally a radio
special put together by radio station
WHDH and highlighted the Red Sox
incredible season of 1967. The success
of the first two sports albums lead to
a number of baseball recordings that
were released by Fleetwood, from 1967
to 1980.
