In
1973, the Reserve Life Insurance Co. of
Dallas issued an advertising premium
foldout with record called, “How To
Hit!” by Mickey Mantle. The cardboard
folder included a cyan colored, 33⅓ RPM
flexi-disc record made by Eva-Tone Soundsheets. The
cover pictures Mickey Mantle
instructing kids on "How To Hit" below
his facsimile autograph.
Page One of the
foldout features Photos 1-3 coinciding
with Mickey Mantle
discussing "Your Bat" selection, and
"Batting Grip"
on the record.
Page Two; photos 4-6 with Mantle
covering "Your stance" and "Over Striding"
on the record. Mantle then discusses
the importance of cleanliness, clean
body, mind, exercise, sleep, health
diet, and stay away from drugs,
alcohol, and cigarettes. Page Three;
Photos 7 & 8, Mickey discusses on the
record, "Holding Your
Head Still." Page Four; features
photos 9-14, with Mantle demonstrating
a "Level Swing" and showing a boy the
art of "Bunting" also discussed on the
record.
The reverse side of the booklet, features a short career bio, and
statistics. A Reserve Life fact sheet is also part
of the booklet, as it gives a history
of the company. The final
page is a letter from Mickey
Mantle, Vice President – Special
Markets, signed with a facsimile
signature. There is also a picture of
mantle at the top. Mickey Mantle
worked as Director of public relations
for the Dallas Reserve Life Insurance
Company into the 1980s.
