Taking advantage of two MGM
blockbuster films released in 1949, the
Andrews Sisters and Bud Daily recorded
two songs on the Decca record label;
"Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and "In
the Good Old Summer Time." The movie
"Take Me Out to the Ball Game" starring
Gene Kelly, Esther Williams, and Frank
Sinatra; and In the Good Old Summertime
staring Judy Garland and Van Johnson.
The Decca Personality Series recordings, feature the Andrews Sisters And
Dan Dailey With Vic Schoen And His
Orchestra. Side A - "Take Me Out To The
Ball Game" was written by Albert Von
Tilzer, and Jack Norworth in 1908. The
song, became the official anthem of
baseball, and is the third-most
frequently heard song in America,
behind the national anthem and Happy
Birthday.
Jack Norworth later wrote different verses for the song in 1927, with
"Nelly Kelly" replacing "Katie Casey."
The 1927 verse was used in this
recording, which features the Chorus
first, then the verse, followed by the
chorus twice. A minor change to the4t
line of the chorus "I don't care if
we
never get back" ("we, replacing "I")
The final chorus is sung in a jazzy
style.
Side B - "In The Good Old Summer Time was written-By George Evans,
and Ren Shields. Decca also
released the two songs on a 7 inch, 45
RPM record in 1950. Pictured below is a

Chorus:
"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if we never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
Cause it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game.
Verse:
Nelly Kelly love baseball games,
Knew the players, knew all their names,
You could see her there ev'ry day,
Shout "Hurray," when they'd play.
Her boy friend by the name of Joe
Said, "To Coney Isle, dear, we'll go,"
Then Nelly started to fret and pout,
And to him I heard her shout.
Chorus:
"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if
we never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
Cause it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game.
~ Instrumental ~
(Jazzed up Chorus)
"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if we never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
Cause it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game.
