From Marvelous Marv to a Miracle...
That's the story of the "Amazin" World
Champion New York Mets, a team that
excited a nation. Narrated by Mets
broadcaster Lindsey Nelson, side
one covers the New York Mets history
from their inception in 1962 through
the lean years up to 1968. Side two is
devoted to their 1969 world
championship season. Released by the
Fleetwood Recording Co. in 1969, the
official N.Y. Mets album uses
Play-by-play tapes provided by WJRZ
Radio, NY Mets Flagship Station and WHN
Radio.
The front cover of "The Official N.Y. Mets Album" illustrates "The Miracle
Mets" celebrating their World Series
championship. The back features a write
up from New York Daily News
sportswriter Dick Young. To the right
below the N.Y. Mets logo are album
credits, followed by a picture of the
New York Met broadcasters, Bob Murphy,
Lindsey Nelson, and Ralph Kiner.
Established in 1958, Fleetwood began recording Sports Albums in 1967. The
first "Havlicek Stole The Ball"
featuring highlights of the Boston
Celtic Championship Play-offs from 1956
to 1966. Later that year Fleetwood
Records issued "Impossible Dream," a
recording that was originally a radio
special put together by radio station
WHDH and highlighted the Red Sox
incredible season of 1967. The success
of the first two sports albums lead to
a number of baseball recordings that
were released by Fleetwood, from 1967
to 1980
