On Saturday, April 30, 1977, the New
York Yankees held it's first Tote Bag
Day Promotion. All fans 14 years of age
and under that entered Yankee Stadium
received a canvas Yankee tote bag. Sponsored
by Standard Brands, which was
formed in 1929 by J. P. Morgan.
Standard Brands made several
acquisitions over the years. It bought
Planters in 1960, and the Curtiss Candy
Company makers of the
Reggie Bar, in
1964.
One side of the canvas bag illustrates Planters Mr. Peanut, with a Curtiss
Candy, Baby Ruth candy bar above and
Butterfingers below. The opposite side
features the New York Yankees top hat
logo. That same year on October 1,
Standards Brands sponsored Fan
Appreciation Day, handing out
Team
Photo Steins to all in attendance.
