The Hanna Manufacturing Company of
Athens, Georgia, was established in
1911 by Clay Hanna. The company turned
out handles for scoops, shovels, and
spades in Macon, GA, then moved to
Athens Georgia in 1921. Hanna produced
baseball bats from about 1925, until
1976. In 1930 Hanna patented a
non-chipping treatment, which was
called "Steel Temper." A couple of
years later Hillerich & Bradsby used
this treatment and called it "Powerized."
In 1935, the Flox "hold fast" grip was
introduced and a cork grip was marketed
in 1936.
In 1936, the Hanna Manufacturing
Company also introduced the CM - Custom Made
- Bats with Registered Balance. Each
CM-Custom Made bat is registered at the
factory, enabling the bat to be
reordered using the unique serial
number to duplicate the exact
specifications; style, length, weight,
wood, finish and balance.
Sporting goods dealers can offer players exact duplication of the bat they
have been using and save them the
trouble of sending their orders direct
to the factory. Dealers with complete CM
stock will often be able to make
deliveries direct from their racks.
Where the number is not in stock, all
that you have to do is send the serial
number to the Hanna factory, and a
duplicate CM bat will be sent you
promptly. The CM bat gives the dealer a
real service to offer professional
players in his community a custom bat
made to the players personal
specifications.
The No. CM Custom Made Registered Balanced bats were made available using
high quality ash, hickory and
beaverwood. Ash and beaverwood with the
Hanna Non-Chop Treatment. Finished in
