In 1956, Harold D. Youngman
approached Mickey Mantle about leasing
and operating a Holiday Inn hotel in
Joplin, Missouri. It was agreed that
Mickey would be named the president of
the Mickey Mantle Motel Corp., the
Holiday Inn, and Youngman would be the
vice president. The hotel opened for
business on January 10, 1957.
This Mickey Mantle's Holiday Inn Hotel "Our Gift
Shop" tent card was placed on night
stands or dressers at the Mickey
Mantle's Holiday Inn, located at
Highway 71, 2600 Range Line Road,
Joplin Missouri.
One side of the tent card promotes the Jewelry by Bergere and Whiting
Davis, Hummel figurines, Marhill
compacts and lighters, Hand finished
brass accessories made in Israel,
Bovano Ware Decorative Accessories. The
card goes on to read: "Ladies you will
enjoy browsing in our gift shop. Men
the Lady-in-your-life will be thrilled
with a gift selected by you from our
display."
The opposite side announces "Souvenirs For Youngsters only" Mickey Mantle
Personalized; T-shirts, Baseballs,
Miniature Ball Bats, Pen and Pencil
sets, Statuettes. The card goes on to
read: "Our shop carries a complete line
of liquors for sale by the bottle"
