NOTES:

The H. Niedecken Company was originally founded by Henry Niedecken Sr. in 1847 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was a well respected firm that was a bookbinder and blank-book manufacture. The company later produced and sold, office supplies, office furniture, stationary, and among other items that included toys, decorative china, "Holiday Novelties" druggists' sundries, and Base Ball Goods.

In 1881 Henry Niedecken Sr. handed over part of the business to his sons Henry Jr. & Edward before his death in 1888. The sons incorporated the business, naming Edward president & Henry Jr. Vice President. The sons explored different business ventures that included, Iron ore mining, Importing, and Edward even held an 1891 patent for a Saw-mill-carriage offset. The next generation of Niedeckens continued to expand the business throughout Wisconsin, Michigan, portions of Iowa and the Northwest.

The baseball gloves feature the "Reliance" anchor logo which also appeared on their blank books, Stationary, tablets, and all paper goods. Inside the the oval "Reliance" logo is an anchor which has the firms initials H.N.CO." at the bottom. The circa 1900's - 1910's dating is approximate to the "Base Ball Goods" advertised in the 1909 newspaper pictured below. Models include: 1 inch web baseball gloves; buckle-back raised heel padding catchers mitt model No. 601, with a 1905 patent date; and a Buck finished horse hide No. 20 juvenile full web catchers mitt.
