Spalding introduced the No. 10-0
"World Series" Catchers mitt in 1913.
The mitt featured a molded face,
patented by assignor to AG Spalding,
Charles M. King. Noted in the hobby as
the "King patent," C.M King invented a
baseball glove with a removable lining,
so the padding can be removed for adjustment, and repair. Also
made available in the 1913 catalog was
the model No. 10-0P catchers mitt that
featured an additional King patent. The
perforated palm.
The object of the perforated palm, patent no. 1,056,909 was "to produce a
base ball glove or mitt in which the
palm portion is constructed to present
a more adherent surface in catching a
base ball." This feature was added to
the 10.0 "World Series" molded face catchers
mitt. The "Molded Face" patent no.
963,006 catchers mitt featured a
padding secured in it's extended
position to keep the shape of the outer
mitt. Both the 10-0, and the 10-0P
World Series catchers mitts featured;
Brown calfskin, leather lace, leather
strap and brass buckle fastening. Reach
issued the 9A Perforated Palm catchers
mitt around the same time.
