As
Advertised in a 1913 Rawlings catalog;
Glovolium is the only preparation on
the market that softens the glove and
at the same time preserves the leather,
neither does it become rancid and
offensive as other preparations do,
after the glove has been used, it is
odorless and harmless, and gives to the
article on which it is added
durability... The early Glovolium
bottles retailed for .10¢
and the Price was printed on the bottle
label. The later bottles that sold for
.18¢ in the mid to late 1920's, and
1930's featured a screw top bottle as
opposed to the early cork bottles.
Sometime during the 1920's through the 1930's,
Rawlings Glovolium Glove Oil was offered in a
green screw top can. In 1931 a 4 once
can had a retail price of .35¢, an 8 oz
can .55¢
and one gallon was offered to teams at
a cost of
$4.00. By the 1950's (post war) Glovolium
baseball Glove Dressing was sold
in a brown can with a nozzle dispenser.
Around 1959 Rawlings
introduced the blue can with the
collapsible nozzle dispenser. At the
top reads "The Finest in the field"
with a crude illustration of a catcher
& umpire at the bottom. By 1968 the
blue can was redesigned adding a new
Rawlings logo, "The Finest in the
field" was removed, and the
catcher-umpire illustration is more
sophisticated. this can was sold
through the 1970s, and into the 1980's.
