Western Auto Supply Company—known
more widely as Western Auto—was a
specialty retail chain of stores that
supplied automobile parts and
accessories. Western Auto primarily
sold products under their own private
labels, including tires, batteries,
electronics, appliances, and tools.
Western Auto also sold sporting goods,
using the "Western's" private store
brand. By the mid 1950's Western Auto
switched to the Revelation brand of
Sporting goods which also had the
circle arrow logo. The circle arrow was
removed around 1965. In 1988,
Sears Roebuck purchased Western Auto.
The Mickey Mantle Revelation GC 1308 fielders glove was produced in the mid to late 1950s
by Rawlings. Denkert Sporting Goods,
also manufactured baseball gloves for
Western Auto, including the Mickey
Mantle Revelation G1319, about the same
time. The Mickey Mantle G1319 was part
of their 48 Anniversary sale in 1957,
where a "FREE! Large size autographed
picture of Mickey Mantle suitable for
framing!" was offed. There are ads
which do not list the model number,
leaving open the possibility that the
Free pictures were also given away with
other Mickey Mantle gloves as well.
