"Let's Keep The Dodgers In Brooklyn"
was written by Roy Ross (music) words by Sam Denoff and Bill
Persk. Recorded by Phil Foster on Coral
Records, the 1957 song was written as a
futile plea to keep the Dodgers in
Brooklyn. Foster, is best known for his
roll as Frank DeFazio, Laverne’s
pizzeria-owning father, on the hit TV
show “Laverne and Shirley.” The
promotional record issued to DJs has a
blue Coral label that reads "SAMPLE
COPY - NOT FOR SALE" The retail issue
has an orange label. Side A features
"Let Keep The Dodgers In Brooklyn,
Side B "Listen All You Bachelors"
(Written By – Michael And Danny Foster)
With
the words sung in Brooklynese, the
recording left out the verse
"Our Prospect Park is pretty, the pride
of or great city, but offer it we
gladly do; But until when Kingdom
comes, please leave us wid our bums,
O’Malley that’s all we want from you"
it was instead replaced with "Billy,
what would Brooklyn be without the
Dodgers? Well Brooklyn will be, like
a," then the song continues into the
verse starting with, "Like a pair of
socks that’s holey..."
The 45 RPM record was issued in a standard generic Coral record sleeve, but the
sheet music for "Let's Keep The Dodgers
in Brooklyn" pictures Phil Foster
singing into a WNEW microphone
with an Ebbets Field backdrop. In 1954
Phil Foster recorded "A Brooklyn Dodger
Fan" on Coral Records.

Say, did you hear the news
about what’s happenin’ in Brooklyn?
We really got the blues about what’s happenin’ in Brooklyn
It ain’t official yet We hope official it don’t get
But beware my friend, and let me warn ya,
they’re think’ a taink’ the Bums to California
Let’s keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn
A house is not a home without some love
Don’t let them leave our premises,
L.A. would be their nemises,
‘cause Brooklyn fits the Dodgers like a glove
Mister Walter O’Malley, we always called you “pally,”
we stuck with you through thick and thin
But if you take away the Dodgers,
guys like Campy, Newk and Hodges
We ain’t your pal so more the way we been
Let’s keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn
A house is not a home without some love
Don’t let them leave our premises,
L.A. would be their nemises,
‘cause Brooklyn fits the Dodgers like a glove
We offer our bridges.
You can take ‘em wid yez,
we have a couple we could spare
But we’d all feel so glum
wid’out the Duke and Gilliam,
We’d need one left to jump off in despair
Our Prospect Park is pretty,
the pride of or great city,
but offer it we gladly do;
But until when Kingdom comes,
please leave us wid our bums
O’Malley that’s all we want from you
"Billy, what would Brooklyn
be without the Dodgers? Well Brooklyn will be, like a,"
Like a pair of socks that’s holey
widout Jackson and Cimoli,
Like a bed widout a pillow Oskine and Furillo,
Like a ship widout a harbor widout Podres and the Barber
Like the sun when it don’t shine widout Zimmer and Labine
Like the boids widout a bee widout Alston and Pewee
And here I am a poet and I didn’t even know it
So send the Phils to Trenton, the Giants to St. Paul,
but keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn, the greatest borough
of all
So let’s keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn
You’ve heard our plea, at last we had our say
Your mind is in a fog, if you take them to that smog
Leave the Dodgers in Brooklyn in, U.S.A. We really love
‘em,
Keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn, U.S.A. |
