Written by Mickey Stoner, and Lou
Shelly, "The Mighty Mickey Mantle" was
recorded by Shorty Warren And His
Western Rangers on the Gametime record
label. The 7 inch 45 RPM record was
released in 1956 with “Somebody Broke
My Ding Dong,” on the flip side. Although
the song never made it to the
pages of Billboard Magazine, copies
were sent to a few newspaper sports
editors. Met with less than favorable
reviews, the Miami Daily News-Record,
published in Miami, Oklahoma, basically
rated the disc as being worse than
Teresa brewer's "I Love Mickey,"
followed with apologies to the Mantle family.
Shorty Warren who's advertised as the Eastern King of Western Swing, as it
reads in the accompanying publicity
release, recorded the song because he
and Mantle are close buddies and "have
the utmost regard for each other's
ability to perform."

The Mighty Mickey Mantle, The Mighty Mickey Mantle
In the record books for ever more.
Batting lefty or righty, that Mantle man is mighty,
never saw his like before.
He was born in Oklahoma, in nineteen thirty-one.
Started playing with a baseball before he learned to
run.
When he was a little laddie, and no bigger than a bat,
Learned the game from his dear daddy and now look
where he's at.
The Mighty Mickey Mantle, The Mighty Mickey Mantle
In the record books for ever more.
Batting lefty or righty, that Mantle man is mighty,
never saw his like before.
He is feared by every pitcher, when he steps to the
plate.
It's because a switcher, that's why he is so great.
He can run as fast as lightning, and the boys have
spread the word.
when that mickey stealing second, you gotta throw to
third.
The Mighty Mickey Mantle, The Mighty Mickey Mantle
In the record books for ever more.
Batting lefty or righty, that Mantle man is mighty,
never saw his like before.
When they're in that finale innin' and need a run or
two.
Seems they always wind up winnin' caus' Mantle would
come through.
No he never thought of quitin' thou he ached in every
bone.
Now in runnin', fieldin', hittin', he's in a class
alone.
The Mighty Mickey Mantle, The Mighty Mickey Mantle
In the record books for ever more.
Batting lefty or righty, that Mantle man is mighty,
never saw his like before, never saw his like before.
