Yankee Stadium, "The House That Ruth
Built," in 1923 was to undergo a major
renovation after the 1973 season. The
Yankees wanted to commemorate the great
history of the Stadium for the fans. The Yankees turned to the
Fleetwood Recording Co. to accomplish
the goal. Fleetwood produced "Yankee
Stadium: The Sounds Of A Half Century"
33⅓ RPM 7" Microsonic record. On the
final game of the 1973 season,
September 30, each of the 32,238 on
hand that day received the 50th
anniversary record.
The record was a success but many fans who were unable to attend that game
wanted a copy. Fleetwood responded by
including the album in their catalogue
and issued a
12" LP record. A
Flexi-Disc copy of the record was also
produced by Eva-Tone Soundsheets, and inserted into
the 1974 Yankee Yearbook.
"Yankee Stadium" The Sounds of A Half
Century features the greatest moments
in Yankee Stadium's 50 year history in
this colorful commemorative album. All
the action and excitement from the
house that Ruth Built. Narrated by "The
voice of the Yankees" Mel Allen, "How
about that". The cover Features Yankee
Greats Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Joe
DiMaggio, and Lou Gehrig. The back has
a short bio of "The most Famous sports
Arena in America". The Record itself,
features the 50 year history of events
at Yankees Stadium. "From Babe Ruth to
Bobby Murcer - its all here..." It also
covers the Historic Mass for peace by
Pope Paul VI, Boxing, and Giant
Football events.
Voices on the Album include Mel Allen, Red Barber, Curt Gowdy, Frank
Messer, Phil Rizzuto, and Bob Wolf. The 7" microsonic record
has compatible stereo to a 33⅓ RPM recording.
It is equal in quality and playing time
to 12 LP record. The exclusive
Fleetwood microsonic process permits up
to three times the normal playing time.
Produced by the Fleetwood Recording
Company Inc. Revere, Massachusetts.
