American Eagle was the in-store brand
used on baseball gloves sold in the
Spiegel mail order catalog. Spiegel was
an American direct marketing retailer
founded in 1865 by Joseph Spiegel. The
Spiegel catalog, advertised various
brands of apparel, accessories,
footwear, housewares, toys tools,
firearms and sporting goods using the
American Eagle brand name.
The American Eagle baseball gloves were
offered in Spiegel catalogs during the
1940's and 1950's. Signature and block
letter player endorsed models included;
Al Simmons, Bill Werber, Dick Culler
No. 600, Duke Snider No. 7015, Hoot
Evers No. 1709, Jelly Sorelle No.
53V7003, and the 1951 issue Warren
Spahn no. 7025, manufactured by Hutch.
Their 1951 catalog featured Hutch
baseball gloves while the 1955 catalog
lists Wilson models, and might indicate
that Wilson produced American Eagle
baseball gloves for Spiegel at this
time.
