This
circa 1950s trapper model first base mitt
was made by McKinnon Leather Products
Inc. of Buffalo NY. "Trapper
Model" is branded at the top, with
McKinnon, Professional, above Genuine
Cowhide at the bottom. The
Trapper
models start to appear in the 1940s,
and became more popular in the 1950s.
This style web, was designed to create
a pocket to trap the ball. "Trapper"
McKinnon Baseball Glove History: McKinnon Dash Co. was founded in 1876 and
manufactured dashboards for horse drawn
buggies and carriages. Their metal
framed dashboards were covered by
stretched leather, to provide
protection from the horses kicking up
mud and dust into the passenger area.
McKinnon Dash (Dashboards) also manufactured other products such as
bicycles, canvas goods and welded
chain. In 1927, the McKinnon Dash Co.
purchased Bon Tober Sporting Goods, a
manufacture of baseball gloves and
balls. After 1930 McKinnon Dash began
producing a complete line of leather
sporting goods, under the "McKinnon"
brand name.
