Rawlings Mickey Mantle Glove Tag

The Rawlings Mickey Mantle die cut glove tags were made to hang from the glove, and were used by the retailer to price or and describe how to care for your Mickey Mantle glove. From 1954 to 1962 Rawlings issued three different hang tags. The front of all three glove tags picture Mickey Mantle. Both the 1954-1957, and the 1958 glove tags use the same picture. The back of all three tags has instructions on how to treat the glove using Rawlings Gloveolium; how to protect your glove during a game, and how to store the glove between games.

The inside of the bifold hang tag has a Mickey Mantle baseball career biography of the "STAR OF THE NEW YORK YANKEES," accomplishments, and stats. The 1954-1957 tag provides information up to 1952. The 1958 tag the information goes up to 1957, and the 1962 tag up to 1961. The Registered Trademark circle (R) Racol symbol was added below the Rawlings script logo on the 1958 Glove tag.

BUYER BEWARE! - An extremely rare 1956 Rawlings retail display sign, was used to produce reproduction "fantasy piece" Glove tags. The item that sold in a Robert Edwards auction was signed by Mickey Mantle in blue Sharpie. Scam artist typically make mistakes, as these 1956 glove tags that are being sold as authentic feature a post 1960 Mickey Mantle autograph, and the exact signature that appears on the retail display. (picture below left column) The printing process used to produce these tags is also not of the period. It is a modern reproduction.
