Banner was the trademark brand of
athletic equipment for the
Peerless Sporting goods Co., a retail
distributor business, located at 513
Broadway N.Y.C. There is little known
about the company, and catalog
information is not available. The
Peerless Sporting Goods Co. operated in
the 1920's until about the 1940s when
at some point they became the Peerless
brand name for the Olympic Sporting
Goods Co. Athletic
equipment distributed with the
Banner and Peerless brands were
manufactured by major companies.
Baseball bats were made by Louisville
Slugger. Baseball gloves were made by
goldsmith and Wilson.
This Peerless Sporting Goods Co.,
Junior League Model F-15 fielders glove was
manufactured by Wilson Sports
Equipment; as evident by the "Greased
Set Pocket Genuine Horsehide" stamp
that was only used by Wilson from about
1937-1952. Wilson also made the same
style Junior League Baseball glove in
1937 for Sears, J.C. Higgins brand.
Baseball gloves manufactured
by Goldsmith feature "-A- Peerless
Product" stamp, a term used by
Goldsmith (-A- Goldsmith Product) from
1934 -1939. This stamp was used on both
Peerless Sporting Goods - Banner brand, and
Olympic Sporting Goods - Peerless brand
baseball gloves. The top of both brands
logo reads "Seal Of Super Quality" and NYC at the
bottom. The Peerless Sporting Goods Co.
Logo reads "REG. U.S. PAT. OFF." at the
very bottom.
