The
Wimberly-Thomas Hardware Company, Inc.
was founded as the May and Thomas
Hardware Company in 1887. T. Felton
Wimberly, a bookkeeper with May and
Thomas, bought May's interest in the
company in 1890. The business outgrew
the original 1st Avenue North store,
and in 1908 moved to a larger warehouse
located on Avenue A (1st Avenue
South). The company served both the
retail and wholesale business of
Birmingham. The Wholesale Hardware
Company offered a wide range of
products to outlets in Alabama,
Florida, and Mississippi. In 1984 the Wimberly-Thomas Hardware Company was
acquired by the Belknap Hardware & Mfg
Co., wholesale hardware supply co.
