Don Heffner Ceramic Baseball Mug

Don Heffner played in the Major Leagues for the New York Yankees, St. Louis Browns, Philadelphia Athletics and Detroit Tigers from 1934-1944. After his playing career ended Heffner was a manager in the Browns farm system. in 1953 he secured a copyright to produce ceramic baseball gloves, and did so until 1958 when he returned to the Major Leagues as a coach with the Kansas City Athletics. Heffner coached for the Tigers in 1961, the Mets in 1964-65, managed the Reds in 1966, and a coach for the Angels in 1967-1968.

The Don Heffner of Monrovia Cal. ceramic baseball gloves were sold in souvenirs shops, and ballparks during the mid 1950's. These baseball mugs with raised stitching design were part of the inventory and they feature a "Heffner ©" on the bottom side.

The ceramic gloves were made with two different molds. One that featured a relief of the player or team logo, located on the center of the palm. The second was a basic ceramic glove that was created with a rectangular cove where a sticker or decal was placed that would feature the name of a team or organization. The basic mold sometimes featured a team logo decal on the center of the palm.
