Major sporting goods
manufacturers would produce
baseballs for other companies
and place the name brand of
that company on the ball. Large
mail order catalogs, hardware
and department stores would
take advantage of this service
to promote their name brand,
being sold along side suppliers
of sports equipment. Here are
just a few of the number of
lessor known baseball
manufacturers, and companies
that used private branding to

When trying to attribute
the game number on a ticket
without a date, to the game
played, it is important to
remember that all the baseball
game reference websites only
list completed official games
played, results and box scores.
The correct method used to
attribute the game number on an
undated ticket stub, to the
date of the game played, starts
with the team's Home Schedule.....Read

Then in August, the Tigers

The
VetCollector - In the midst of
researching for an article I was writing, I
noticed search results that had a recurrent
theme that pulled me away from the subject of my
study and onto something that I knew nothing
about. It isn’t saying much in regards to
experiencing discoveries in terms of militaria
or baseball as I am a relative newcomer to this
area of collecting. What caught my attention was
an image of three Chicago Cubs players wearing
uniforms with a patch bearing a familiar
military design that is affectionately known as
the “Ruptured Duck.” ....Read

Through the years there have been a number of
sporting goods, and woodworking companies that
used the image of an animal in their logo, or
baseball bat brandings. Some retail stores had
baseball bats made to promote their products,
that also featured animals. In this months
newsletter I thought it would
be fun to take a look at some
of these baseball bat brandings....Read

Hank Greenberg concocted
a mitt that looked as big as a
catchers mitt with a fishing
net attached. In 1939
Greenberg's oversized mitt was
the source of worry, and
protest that leads to the
development of the Trapper
Model. A local sports writer
wrote "This mitt is a triumph
of modern science. It Contains;
Three lengths of barbed wire, 4
corners, and 2 side pockets as
on a pool table, a fishnet, a
compact anti-aircraft gun to
bring down high throws, and a
pocket comb, for Hank is a

With Home Runs being hit at a
record pace in 2017, the
"Juiced" baseball is back in
the news. Since the dead ball
era, there have always been
accusations that Spalding
periodically introduced lively
or "juiced" balls, made by
winding the yarn tighter.
Through the years whenever the
offense was dominated by good
pitching Major league baseball
either made rule changes to
give the batter an edge over
the pitcher or try to introduce
a baseball that was more lively
or easier to see.....Read
